        - THE NEW POLITICS: THE MASS EFFECT -

In a discussion with Harley Schlanger, Steve Douglas, and
Phil Rubinstein yesterday, Lyn developed how we will radically
change our sales operation, removing all vestiges of boiler-room
operations. (We can't do this everywhere at this stage, but we
can and must begin in Southern California,-- one of the key areas
where the national income is at stake.) We have one or two
politically motivated organizers in the sales effort around whom
we can build this; bring in tweeners to change the sales method.
Instead of a phone team sales bank where each organizer depends
on his own contacts, go for a mass effect, through group
contacts, whether they have money or not. Maintain them as a
group. Rather than burning through contacts, keep them in
activity, even sometimes in small things. Keep them involved.
Some will do more. Manage the group as the target entity. We have
to learn to live with a lot of poor people, through a mass
 approach.

       Hands-on, hour-to-hour leadership must have a clinical
approach. You can't just throw the tweeners in; the team leader
must assist them, reviewing the course of every day. Real sales
leadership will produce rapid upgrading of the tweeners.

Remember how the youth achieved the mass effect: in Boston,
they brought the Train material from Boston University to Harvard
and developed it, and it was picked up and re-echoed from the
West Coast. Soon, we even had professors standing up and speaking
out, as a result of a mass effect around ideas. What happened in
the Pennsylvania Legislature was the perfect crowning example,
when a the committee considering David Horowitz's legislation for
"academic freedom," so-called, rejected it unanimously, including
even the very Republican legislator who had introduced it for
 Horowitz in the first place!

We reach individuals by spreading ideas to the whole
population. Building sales one contact at a time doesn't work. Of
course one contact of one organizer will respond, but he does it
through the mass effect. Our marketing must create a mass effect.
Build a group of contacts in one area, or of one type of person.
Each must do something every month. Some will make major
contributions, others not, but stress active participation in the
 group.

Get away from gimmicks: give them the world situation, what
Europeans are thinking. Learn how to headline it, so it doesn't
take a lengthy discourse. Then to smaller questions: Do you have
this? You've got to get that!

Some can do more; the ideas keep the group together.

And the election shows who the people are who are ready to
 move: the 18-35 brackets.

   - HER CALL DROVE HIM TO SUICIDE,-- WHAT DID SHE SAY? -

Last night's NEC meeting discussed the fraudulent campaign
using Erica Duggan, after a new smear broadcast in Germany by
Deutsche Welle. Jeremy was a deeply disturbed youth, who had
already been treated by the London Tavistock Clinic as a young
child, after the break-up of his parents' marriage.

It is significant that it was immediately following a
telephone conversation with his mother, Erica, that Jeremy Duggan
became actively suicidal for the last time. His companions tried
to watch him, but when one of them left for a cigarette, he
killed himself. What did his mother say which drove him to
suicide? What ugly secret did she know about his past and the
break-up of her marriage which drove him to suicide? What is this
guilty woman trying to cover up?

The Washington Post's April Witt told only half the story,--
which is all she was capable of doing in any case.

MEXICO CITY LYM DISTRIBUTED 20,000 LEAFLETS TITLED "TRUE
REVOLUTIONARIES DON'T PATCH THINGS UP; TRUE REVOLUTIONARIES
TRANSFORM THE UNIVERSE," at the Lopez Obrador rally Dec. 1
protesting the inauguration of spurious president Felipe
Calderon, one of the largest runs they have ever done, for which
they raised the money themselves from their contacts to get it
printed. (See the Sat. Dec. 2 Morning Briefing for quotes from
the leaflet, or a6486mex.020.) In one case, an organizer was
able to get on a bus chartered by Lopez Obrador's PRD party and
gave a fairly extensive briefing to everyone. In other cases,
there was a pattern of slanders circulating against LaRouche
("CIA," "in jail," etc.) among the Boomer 68ers that make up a
segment of the Lopez Obrador supporters.

NOT HAVE AUTHORITY TO ATTACK IRAN AND SYRIA under any previous
Congressional resolutions, in answer to questions from Sen.
Robert Byrd (D-WV), who asked a chain of hard-hitting questions.
Gates also trashed George P. Shultz in answer to another question
by revealing that former CIA Director William Casey had written a
letter asking President Reagan to fire Shultz. (see slug) For

COLLAPSE OF REAL ESTATE NOW HITTING LENDERS. With unusually
blunt language, the {Wall Street Journal} opens it front-page
coverage saying, "The surge in mortgage delinquencies in the past
few months is squeezing lenders and unsettling investors
worldwide in the $10 trillion US mortgage market. The pain is
most apparent in sub-prime mortgages, though there are signs it
is spreading to other parts of the mortgage market."
Delinquencies have been rising for over a year, they say, but
have "accelerated sharply in the past two to three months."
Option One, the sub-prime unit of giant H&R Block, posted a $39
million loss in the three months ending Oct. 31, compared to a
$48 million profit a year ago.
Dope Inc's HSBC Holdings, the world's third-biggest bank by
market value, said third quarter revenue growth slowed, as bad
loans rose in the US and the UK. Loan delinquencies and
write-downs increased due to more bankruptcies and a "weaker"
housing market. "There is little in the statement that will calm
fears of a slowdown," said an analyst. "People were looking for
signs of a stabilization in bad debts, [but] things seem to be
worsening." HSBC says they "miscalculated some borrowers' ability
 to repay mortgage loans...."
Toll Brothers, noted builder of McMansions, was forced to
drastically downgrade their profit forcast for 2007, after
posting a nearly 50% collapse in profits for the quarter ending
Oct. 31. Income was down from $310 million in 2005 to $178
million. They had 585 -- or 37% -- cancellations, and customers
only signed $710 million worth of contracts, compared to $1.59
billion in 2005. Whistling past the graveyard, CEO Robert Toll
said, "Fifteen months into the current slowdown, we may be seeing
a floor in some markets where deposits and traffic ... seem [to
be] dancing on the bottom, or slightly above." [mpb]

LOSS OF WHITE COLLAR AUTO JOBS COULD HIT MICHIGAN HARDEST.
Sean McAlinden, chief economist at the Center for Automotive
Research, told the Detroit Economic Club that, concerning the
"massive auto cutbacks," that the worst is yet to come. "All of
the bad headlines you've seen this year are going to get much,
much larger," he said, "none of the biggest lay-offs of salaried
workers has actually happened yet. And they're about to in the
coming months. So we've got to prepare ourselves."
Overall, the number of automotive jobs in Michigan has
fallen 34% in the last two years, but the concentration of
white-collar jobs is the highest in that state. Livonia, MI has
seen their population go from 18,000 in 1950, to 120,000 in
1970s, and estimates place it below 100,000 now. [mpb]

VULTURE GRAB FOR U.S. AUTO PLANTS IS ON; NEW MAJOR PLANT
CLOSINGS ON THE LIST UNLESS REVERSED BY E.R.A. Within the past
two days, we have received reports of a new set of upcoming major
auto plant closures -- this time by Chrysler -- and the coming
buy-up of Delphi's Steering Division and Climate Control Division
plants by Cerberus, the giant hedge fund started by organized
crimes Mike Steinhart and now run by Jack "Snow Job" Snow. The
{Detroit News} quoted Sean McAlinden, chief economist at the
Center for Automotive Research, that the worst is yet to come
with "massive auto cutbacks." In Detroit, Sunday was the last
workday for the remaining 350 workers at the historic Budd plant
in Detroit, which at one time employed 18,000.
Chrysler is reportedly getting ready to slate the closure of
two big assembly plants -- St. Louis North, and Newark, Delaware
-- and its Detroit Axle plant. Ford is closing former Visteon
plants in Ypsilanti and Kansas City, and announced the sale of
the former Visteon climate-control systems plant in Plymouth
Township, Michigan, with 1,250 workers, to the French firm Valeo.
Valeo will demand "a new and competitive compensation agreement"
from the UAW (these are already "second-tier," $14/hour workers),
and will further reduce the workforce to 800 and replace some of
 it with workers it hires.
Total employment in all 23 former Visteon plants is down
from 13,600 UAW members in mid-2005, to 9,800 now, and will fall
to about 4,000 over the next nine months as plants are sold or
closed, according to Ford VP Michael Ver. That will be an average
of only about 200 UAW workers remaining in each plant.
At the same time, Cerberus, which just bought majority
ownership of GMAC, is negotiating to purchase up to 12 Delphi
plants in the United States, and 12 more in Europe, under the
same "rules of engagement" for employment and wages as with
Valeo. This will include Steering Systems plants in Saginaw,
Indianapolis, and Athens, Alabama; and Interiors Division plants
in Columbus, Ohio; Adrian, Michigan; Vandalia, Ohio; and Gadsden,
 Alabama). [pbg]

PENTAGON IS FOUND TO BE AT FAULT FOR 2004 AIRLINE CRASH IN
AFGHANISTAN AS IT FAILED TO CONTROL PRIVATE CONTRACTORS. The
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation into
the 2004 airline crash in Afghanistan, killing six, three of whom
were special operations military men, found that the Pentagon was
responsible due to its poor oversight of private contractors. The
flight was operated by Presidential Airways of Florida -- part of
the same company as Blackwater USA. The NTSB statement, in part,
said, "[NTSB] is concerned that the unique risks presented by
operations in remote overseas locations have not been adequately
addressed for civilian contractors that provide air transport
services to the U.S. military." [mjf]

FIGHT IN SENATE OVER EMERGENCY FEDERAL DISASTER RELIEF, TO
PREVENT LOSS OF THOUSANDS OF FARMERS AND RANCHERS -- VOTE ON $4.8
BILLION AID PACKAGE PROPOSED AS "CONRAD AMENDMENT" to the FY'07
Agriculture Appropriations bill. Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) filed
the measure -- signed by 27 other Senators of both parties -- for
a vote Dec. 5. In opposition, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) planned a
point-of-order action to defeat it (60 votes will be required in
the Senate to counter Coburn's procedural move).
On Dec. 5, Conrad gave an extensive briefing on the Senate
floor, with flip-chart illustrations, stressing that 5%-10% of
the farm families of his state will be forced off the land if no
action is taken. "This was a devastating year for thousands of
farm families." After several years of terrible floods, this past
year was the "third worst drought on record," after the 1930s
Dust Bowl and the 1950s dry spell. The "Conrad Amendment" covers
disaster areas hit over 2005 and 2006. In 2005, 80% of all U.S.
counties were declared disaster or "continguous disaster" status.
In 2006, 70% were so declared.
Conrad pointed out that the Senate voted last Spring, for
federal disaster relief for farm regions, but the Administration
opposed it, saying that supplemental/emergency funding should go
only for Katrina and the war. In conference with the House,
minimal relief was allowed for farms hit by hurricanes, but not
floods or droughts. Then, over the Summer, the Bush/Cheney line
was -- wait until after the harvest. Now the harvest is a
disaster. The U.S. wheat crop was down 14% over last year. The
Dakotas are an epicenter of the drought. On Dec. 1, 32 farm
organizations sent a letter asking for Senate action. On the
House side, Rep. Frank Lucas (R-OK) is reported to have a $3.3
billion farm disaster relief bill. (mgm)

WHITE HOUSE ISSUED STATEMENT DEC. 5 THREATENING VETO OF ANY
FARM DISASTER RELIEF measure that may be passed. It stated, "The
administration strongly opposes the Senate's agriculture
assistance proposal, the cost of which could exceed $4 billion.
If the president is presented with a bill that includes this
agricultural assitance proposal, the president's senior advisers
would recommend that he veto the bill." (mgm)

                    UNITED STATES

[Source: San Antonio Express-News, Democratic Party sources]
KESHA ROGERS, LYM MEMBER AND FORMER CANDIDATE FOR TEXAS
DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIRMAN, ISSUED A STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO U.S.
REP. HENRY BONILLA'S RIDICULOUS ATTACK ON THE U.S. CONSTITUTION.
Bonilla, a Republican incumbent, is in a run-off election for the
23rd Congressional District in Texas, against Democrat and former
Congressman Ciro Rodriguez. Bonilla charged Rodriguez with
"dangerous judgment" in terror-related matters, citing documents
from Lynne Cheney flunkey David Horowitz's
"DiscoverTheNetwork.org" website, to claim that Rodriguez was
influenced by "known terrorists" in legislation he backed in
 1999.
The legislation in question, for which Rodriguez was a
cosponsor in 1999 -- along with 128 other Congressmen -- would
eliminate the use of secret evidence in deportation cases. In
addition, Bonilla is claiming links between Rodriguez and
Abdurahman Alamoudi, a U.S. citizen who was sent to prison in
2004 for illegal business transactions with Libya. Almoudi gave
$250 to Rodriguez in 1998, the same year he also contributed to
several Republican candidates, including former Bush Energy
Secretary Spencer Abraham, a former Senator from Michigan.
Rogers, who is in San Antonio with a LYM team to mobilize
college students and youth to go to the polls on Dec. 12 to
defeat Cheney/Bush puppet Bonilla, said it is obvious that
Bonilla "missed the message sent by the vast majority of American
voters on November 7th -- especially young voters -- which
rejected the anti-Constitutional policies promoted by the Bush
administration to run their failed war. While even many
Republicans are running away from the administration, the
pathetic Bonilla -- who repeatedly votes against health care
measures for veterans -- is diving headfirst into the Bushes,
joining the President in `staying the course.'|"
She added that he has also failed to get the message of the
bipartisan vote of a committee in the Pennsylvania state
legislature, in which a unanimous vote was cast against the
Goebbel's-style attack on free speech initiated by the hoaxster
Horowitz. Rogers concluded, "By drawing on material produced by
the discredited Horowitz, Bonilla has shown he will continue to
be a puppet of Lynne Cheney and her attack-dog husband, the
soon-to-be-impeached Dick. No serious or honest voter in the 23rd
District of Texas could possibly vote for a puppet of Dick
 Cheney!" (hcs)

WARNER: BUSH SHOULD CONSULT CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS ON IRAQ.
From Sen. John Warner's (R-VA) opening remarks at Tuesday's
hearing on the nomination of Robert Gates for Secretary of
 Defense:
"The Iraq Study Group of which you were a member will
formally present its findings and recommendations.
"I commend the members of that group for their public
service. I think it will be a very important contribution to this
critical debate at this critical time in our history.
"Additionally, General Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs,
has his ongoing review. He does that pursuant to his statutory
authority, exploring all options. And that is a continuing
advisory role that he provides for the President; yourself,
assuming you're confirmed as secretary of defense; and to the
 Congress.
"Most importantly, however, the American people expressed
their judgment on November 7th that change is needed. The
President has responded and stated that he desires to obtain,
quote, `fresh eyes,' end quote, on the situation in Iraq. Your
nomination is confirmation of the President's desire for that
 approach.
"Our committee will continue to look at every option, as I
conclude my chairmanship and the distinguished Senator from
 Michigan assumes his.
"After the President has had the opportunity to review these
very important reports, I respectfully -- and I repeat,
respectfully -- suggest to the administration that he privately
consult with the bipartisan leadership of the new Congress,
members who've responded to the mandate of the people, before
 making his final decisions.
"It is my hope that the executive and legislative branches
will formulate a bipartisan consensus on the way forward.
"To me, this fulfills a moral obligation that our government
-- executive and legislative -- has to the brave men and women of
the armed forces of the United States and their families, who've
sacrificed very, very heavily in this fight to preserve our
 freedom." [ap]

HOUSE DEMOCRATS HOLD FIRST FULL CAUCUS MEETING WITH INCOMING
FRESHMEN-ELECT CONGRESSMEN. THE SUBJECT WAS IRAQ. Hearing
presentations from former Clinton administration official Richard
Holbrooke, General Batiste, think-tanker Jessica Matthews, Reps.
Jack Murtha and Ike Skelton, the Democratic Caucus is looking at
various issues, among which was transparent funding requests,
i.e. no more supplemental bills over which the Congress cannot
exercise oversight. Murtha told the gathering that funding for
troops must be in the base bill. Pelosi noted that a key issue of
transparency which the House Government Reform committee will
investigate is the contract dollars to Halliburton. Rep. Rahm
Emanuel also said that the freshmen congressmen asked questions
of the panel trying to get answers for their constituents who are
demanding to hold Congress accountable on the war. [mjf]

[source: NASA briefing, Dec. 4, speeches by Mike Griffin]
NASA UNVEILS FIRST CUT OF ITS LUNAR EXPLORATION PROGRAM. At
a briefing from the Johnson Space Center, NASA Associate
Administrator Shana Dale, and top NASA technical officials,
released the first draft of the space agency's plan for manned
lunar exploration. Although former astronaut Scott Horowitz,
Associate Administrator for the Exploration Systems Mission
Directorate, described the proposed plan to have a base on the
Moon, rather than short "sortie" missions, as a "very, very big
decision," in fact, nothing anyone could expect to accomplish on
the Moon could be done during one-week sortie stays. The proposed
base will likely be at Shackelton Crater at the south pole of the
Moon. Here, in permanently shadowed regions, there is expected to
be concentrations of volatiles (hydrogen, possibly water ice),
that can be "mined," and permanently sunlit areas that could
provide solar power for the base.
Since last spring, NASA has been in consultation with
hundreds of scientists, academic institutions, industry groups,
and 14 other national space agencies, to figure out what to do on
the Moon. Dale announced that in 2007, she will be making trips
to talk with potential foreign partners about their participation
in the program. NASA will build the transport and crew vehicles,
and all other necessary initial infrastructure. Others will be
invited to add on to these basics, but will not be in the
"critical path" of the American program. Asked by the press if
China will be invited to participate, Dale said NASA is in the
"initial process" of discussions with the Chinese, and that
"cooperation in human space flight" isn't on the agenda.
NASA Administrator Mike Griffin has been eloquently relating
the historical and existential imperative for mankind to explore,
describing the exploration of space as "limited only by our
imagination, ambition, ingenuity, persistence, and leadership."
In an interview printed in the Dec. 4 {Washington Post}, Griffin
also stressed the importance of seeing "the resources of the
Solar System incorporated into humanity's sphere of influence,"
including "collecting helium-3 for nuclear [fusion] power back on
Earth." But NASA's vision is limited by the lack of political and

VENEZUELA AND ARGENTINA COLLABORATE TO COUNTER GEORGE
SOROS' HOSTILE TAKEOVER GRAB FOR ARGENTINA'S LARGE SANCOR DAIRY
COOPERATIVE. While the national outcry over Soros' predatory bid
to buy up 63% of Sancor's stock continues, Argentina's Ambassador
in Caracas Alicia Castro reported that officials from Venezuela's
National Development Bank (Bandes) have been meeting with
Sancor's executives, to come up with an alternative solution.
Rather than buying Sancor's stock, as Soros intends, Venezuela
proposes to offer $120 million to the financially-troubled
cooperative, which would be an advance payment for 20,000 tons
annually of powdered milk and baby formula. Were Venezuela to
make this payment, Castro explained to Radio Mitre, then the
state-run Banco de la Nacion could step in to refinance Sancor's
debt. Moreover, Argentina's National Industrial Technology
Institute (INTI) could offer to provide technological expertise
to Venezuela, which seeks to develop its own dairy industry.
Castro indicated that talks will continue this week, and
raised the possibility of a joint Argentine-Venezuelan venture
being set up that would produce and export powdered milk and
other dairy products. Unlike Soros's vulture-like plan, the
Venezuelan alternative would be a "virtuous one," Castro said.
"It could become a structural project that would establish an
unprecedented model of cooperation in the entire region." The
68-year old Sancor would maintain its "national identity,"
receive significant debt relief, while Venezuela would also
benefit greatly from Argentine technology transfer to its dairy
 industry. [crr]

A BODYGUARD OF ARGENTINE FIRST LADY AND SENATOR CRISTINA
FERNANDEZ DE KIRCHNER WAS SHOT DEC. 4, AS HE WAS REPORTING TO
WORK. Although the general line circulating is that this was an
attempted car robbery, President Nestor Kirchner has ordered an
exhaustive investigation into the incident, to determine whether
the shooting of the Federal Police corporal was intended as a
 "threatening message" to the government.
Keep in mind Lyndon LaRouche's Dec. 4 warning that Cheney
wetworks could well try to assassinate a head of state or some
high-level government official in Ibero-America (see Morning
Briefing for Dec. 5). Sources at the Casa Rosada, the
Presidential palace, told {Clarin} that "we aren't ruling out any
hypothesis," regarding the incident, particularly given the fact
that the corporal is normally deployed on Senator Kirchner's
security team. As he was getting out of his car, he was
approached by three individuals who discharged 20 shots, four of
 which hit him. [crr]

MILAN PROSECUTOR SEEKS INDICTMENTS IN ABU OMAR RENDITION
CASE. The prosecutor in Milan, Italy, who has led the
investigation of the 2003 kidnapping of Egyptian cleric Abu Omar
from the streets of Milan, has asked a judge to issue indictments
of 26 Americans and six Italians in connection with their
involvement in the abduction -- which was part of Dick Cheney's
"rendition" program, in which targets are kidnapped on foreign
soil and are then sent to third countries for interrogation and
 torture.
The Abu Omar case is featured in the LPAC pamphlet "Is
 Joseph Goebbels on Your Campus?"
The Italians charged include former SISMI head Nicolo
Pollari, his former deputy Marco Mancini, and three other SISMI
officials. The judge now has to hold a preliminary hearing to
decide if there is enough evidence to go to trial, but even
lawyers for the accused think that it will go to trial. If and
when it does, it will be the first criminal trial in the Cheney
 rendition program.
The {Washington Post} reported yesterday that some of the
same CIA officers who were involved in the Abu Omar case, showed
up in Norway two months later, apparently planning another
abduction -- this time of Mullah Krekar, the founder of Ansar
al-Islam which had been operating in northern Iraq, under U.S.
protection. The CIA officers' travel records were traced by
 Italian investigators. [ews]

GREEK ARCHBISHOP CHRISTODOULOS OF ATHENS WILL VISIT POPE
BENEDICT XVI and the Church of Rome Dec. 13-16. The visit is
important in light of the recent signing of the common
declaration between Pope Benedict XVI and Partriarch Bartholemew
I in Istanbul. This is the first time that a Greek Orthodox
Patriarch will visit the Pope. Christodoulos attended the funeral
of Pope John Paul II, but neither he nor his predecessors has
 made an official visit.
The Holy Synod is very joyful about the upcoming visit, the
"fruits of which will be positive." The new era of relations
began in 2001, when Pope John Paul II, in the footsteps of St
Paul, visited the Areopagus (Mars Hill) of Athens and signed a
joint declaration with Archbishop Christodoulos. (eh_)

 War Game--A Centuries-Old Vendetta."]
MORE REPERCUSSIONS FROM EIR'S "CHENEY IN RIYADH" MEMORANDUM.
The international impact of the EIR "Behind Cheney's Trip to
Riyadh" memorandum is still being felt. On Dec. 4, the National
Iranian American Council, a group of U.S.-based Iranian exiles
who oppose any U.S. or Israeli attack on Iran, published an
editorial memo, titled "The Fantasy of a `Sunni Bulwark' to
Stabilize Iraq." The document summarized, in detail, the
essential points of the EIR memo, and added an editorial
evaluation that "The `Sunni bulwark' scenario represents one of
Washington's worst possible options regarding Iraq."
       Another website, www.wakeupfromyourslumber.com published a
Dec. 5 piece, "Iraq: The Ultimate War Game -- A Centuries-old
Vendetta," did directly cite the EIR, and publshed almost the
entirety of the article appearing along with the "Cheney to
Riyadh" memo in the Dec. 8, 2006 EIR, which is already posted on
the EIR website. The article led, "As the world descends into
global guerilla warfare, engulfed by espionage, assassinations,
and worldwide intrigue, Jeffrey Steinberg at Lyndon LaRouche
offers a plausible theory as to who is REALLY behind the fiasco
in iraq and the Middle East," and then quoted from the EIR story,
"While the hands and feet of this `three civil war' fiasco may be
American, {the authorship of the Armageddon drive is distinctly
 British.}" [js_]

SAUDI EMBASSY FIRES AUTHOR OF `ARM THE SUNNIS' PIECE. Nawaf
Obaid's consulting contract with the Saudi Arabian Embassy in
Washington, has been cancelled, Saudi Amb. Prince Turki al-Faisal
announced on CNN on Dec. 3, to distance the government from
Obaid's Nov. 29 article in the {Washington Post} which threatened
that Saudi Arabia would intervene to arm the Sunni population in
Iraq, were the United States to withdraw its troops. "To be
sure," Obeid had written, "Saudi engagement in Iraq carries great
risks: it could spark a regional war. So be it: The consequences
 of inaction are far worse."
"Mr. Obaid did some consultancy work for the embassy. And in
order ... to make sure that nobody misunderstands where Saudi
Arabia and the embassy stand on that issue, we terminated our
consultancy with him," Prince Turki said.
The cancellation comes in the wake of the hot discussion in
Southwest Asia created by EIR's Nov. 27 memorandum which blew
the cover off Dick Cheney's Saudi-centered drive to trigger
 intra-Muslim war. [ggs]

PARIS, Dec. 5 (EIRNS)--SOURCE CONFIRMS THAT WEAPONS ARE COMING
INTO LEBANON FROM ALL SIDES. A well-informed source confirmed
what EIR has been saying in the last days -- that weapons are
coming into Lebanon to provoke a real explosion of the country.
Weapons are coming in from the Bush camp to the Sunnis in the
Tripoli area, and the source commented that just yesterday there
was a clash between Sunnis and Shi'as in this area -- for unknown
reasons -- resulting in four killed. Weapons are coming in from
Israel to the "Lebanese Forces," the old Christian camp
 historically in alliance with Israel.
Finally, the source reports that 4,000 armed gangsters have
been recruited to a special unit within the Mounted Police of
Beirut, as an armed force for the Siniora camp. The aim is to
provoke an explosion of the country, by trying to provoke
Hezbollah into armed conflict. This source, however, says that
Nasrallah will not be tricked in this direction. The greater the
pressure, the more obstinately he will pursue the peaceful
opposition path. The source was raving at the slanderous coverage
from Anglo-American outlets portraying General Aoun as a stooge
for Hezbollah, and Hezbollah as a stooge for the Iranians, or
even, the militias of the Iranians. [cbi]

SAUDI-ISRAEL SECRET DIPLOMACY REPORTED. The Tel Aviv
correspondent of the {London Times} reported Dec. 3 that,
according to senior Israeli sources, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert
will soon meet high-ranking Saudi officials "to explore the
formation of a group of moderate Arab countries to negotiate with
Tel Aviv over the future of the Middle East." Olmert reportedly
held a preliminary meeting in Amman, Jordan at the end of
September with Saudi Prince Bandar, whom EIR's sources have
identified as the contact point for Britain's Cheney-led
 Sunni-Israel anti-Iran gambit.
The package is being presented as an Israeli move to accept
the 2002 Saudi peace initiative. The Times calls it also the
impetus behind Olmert's speech last week offering an opening
towards the Palestinians. Under this gambit, Saudi Arabia is to
be gradually taking over the role of principal peace broker
 previously played by Egypt.
The Times piece was widely reported in the Israeli press,
producing much flak back and forth. [ggs]

WASH, DC, Dec. 4 (EIRNS) -- BUSH AND HAKIM DID NOT DISCUSS U.S.
ACTION AGAINST IRAN at their meeting, said Sayyed Abdul Al-Hakim,
to an {EIR} reporter at the USIP (see below). {EIR} was not
called on for a question publicly, but did ask Hakim on the
record if he tried to "persuade George Bush to talk to Iran,"
since the American people fear the Bush administration is going
to war against Iran. Through a translator, Hakim said that the
subject of U.S. relations with Iran was not an area brought up at
 the Bush-Hakim meeting. (mjs)

WASH, DC, Dec. 4 (EIRNS) -- ABDUL AL-HAKIM, HEAD OF THE IRAQI
SHI'ITE GROUP SCIRI, MET WITH PRESIDENT BUSH FOR NEARLY TWO
HOURS, after which he called for stronger attacks against the
Sunnis in Iraq. "The strikes they [Ba'athists] are getting from
the multinational forces are not hard enough to put an end to
their acts. Eliminating the danger of civil war in Iraq could
only be achieved thorugh directing decisive strikes against
Baathist terrorists," he said in a speech at the U.S. Institute
for Peace (USIP), after his White House meeting.
Hakim said that Iraq is not in civil war, but it could
happen. The situation almost went out of control after Nov. 14,
2006, when Sunni terrorists blew up three car bombs in the
Shi'ite area of Baghdad. It was only the intervention by Shi'ite
clerics that restored calm and prevented a revenge frenzy. But,
he warned that they could not contain the population forever. In
the Q & A, Hakim categorically denied the allegations that the
SCIRI's "Badr Brigades" were "death squads" that had been killing
Sunnis, and he said that the Badr organization is no longer a
militia. Hakim also denied that his group is at odds with Shiite
leader, Moqtada al Sadr and his Mahdi army. He defended Sadr as a
member of the united Shiite coalition, and said differences were
 part of "democracy."
Well-informed Arab observers dismissed Hakim's speech at
USIP, and his answers as sophistry, and asked, "What is he
really doing in Washington?" and whether his trip was to counter
the "Sunni card" planned by Dick Cheney.
One of the most important aspects of Hakim's intervention is
to denounce the idea of an international conference of Iraq and
its neighbors to reach a solution. His opposition is because he
does not want Iraq to be "dictated to" by other countries. Oddly,
though he repeated several times that Iraq will not threaten its
neighbors, he never mentioned -- nor was he asked by any of eight
questioners at the event -- about his views of the effects of a
U.S. or Israeli strike on Iran. (mjs)

PARIS, Dec. 3--FRENCH PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SEGOLENE ROYAL ON
OFFICIAL VISIT TO LEBANON. Royal, the Socialist Party
Presidential candidate, is beginning to shed light on what will
be her foreign policy. This past weekend, Dec. 1-2, she decided
to take on the "complicated" Southwest Asian region, a trip which
included stops in Lebanon, the Palestinian Authority, and finally
to Israel. For better and worse, the Lebanese leg of her trip was
in the footsteps of Jacques Chirac's policy towards that region.
In a move which surprised many, she decided to meet and talk
with all political factions, including Hezbollah. She was able to
do this on Dec. 1, in the context of a meeting she held with the
Foreign Affairs Commission of the Lebanese Parliament. Seventeen
Deputies gathered around a table with many journalists in the
background as observers. Among the Deputies was Ali Ammar of the
Hezbollah Politburo, who made a statement in Arabic, in which he
attacked the United States and compared the action of Israel --
the "Zionist entity" -- to that of the "Nazism which occupied
France." Segolene Royal responded that she agreed with his
attacks on American policies for the region. Later, she clarified
her thinking, saying that she didn't mean the United States as a
nation, which is a long-time ally of France, but the foreign
 policies of the Bush Administration.
Regarding the "Zionist entity," Royal expressed, on the
spot, her differences on using that word and said she would
rather speak of a "state," and concluded that that state had the
right to "security." The French neo-cons then made a whole
scandal about the fact that she didn't protest against the
comparison with the Nazis, and Segolene Royal, who had yet to go
to Israel, worked her way out of the trap by stating that due to
the translation "she had not heard that part" of the statement.
Had she heard it, "she would have immediately walked out of the
room." She insisted however, furious, that {"Nobody will stop me
from continuing to hold a dialogue with democratically designated
 representatives."}
Royal, also took the opportunity to meet with Amin Gemayel,
the father of the murdered Pierre Gemayel. She paid homage to
"his impressive dignity," for having "called for calm, which
allowed Lebanon to remain altogether, avoiding plunging into
blind violence." Royal also met with Prime Minister Fouad
Siniora, but, in the footsteps of Chirac, stopped short of
supporting a national unity government which the majority forces
of Hezbollah and General Aoun are calling for.
The Israeli and Palestinian legs of her trip were much more
problematic, and definitely outside the framework of Chirac's
policies. Royal met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Gaza,
but refused to meet with Hamas. Then, after a meeting with
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, she approved of the apartheid
wall, aligned her policies with Israel on Iran, and didn't
condone Israeli overflights over Lebanon, but was understanding
of elements of the Israeli stance. Like Hillary Clinton in the
U.S., Segolene was all smiles and propitiation with those
 fascists. [cbi]

PARIS, Dec. 5--GEN. MICHEL AOUN TO LE PARISIEN: FOR 15 YEARS THE
INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY CONSIDERED SYRIA A FACTOR OF STABILITY.
To the intimation by {Le Parisien} of Dec. 4 that he is playing
the Syrian game, Michel Aoun said, "When I was in exile in
France, every time I spoke against the Syrian occupation [of
Lebanon], France would remind me of my reserve obligation. During
those 15 years, the international community (including France and
the United States) considered Syria as a factor of stability for
Lebanon. It is this cynical policy which pushed many Lebanese
political figures" to turn toward Damascus. To another question
on whether his alliance with Hezbollah is against nature, he
said, "Not at all. The media demonize Hezbollah which represents
30% of the Lebanese people." He stressed that in the "Entente
memorandum" signed between his movement (CPL) and Hezbollah, both
forces "call for redrawing of the borders between Lebanon and
Syria, for the freedom of Lebanese prisoners held in Syria, for
the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between our two
countries, the rejection of any return to Syrian tutorship, and
the return of Lebanese refugees in Israel. We agree with
Hezbollah on the need for creating a modern state favoring the
emergence of a civilian society limiting the influence of
sectarian sentiments." General Aoun has let it be known that he
does not wish to be called a "Christian" leader. [cbi]

IRAN TO REPLACE DOLLAR WITH EURO IN FOREIGN TRADE. Iranian
Finance Minister Davud Danesh-Jafari made the announcement,
saying, "Such inclination has been underlying part of our
economic policy for a while and our Oil Stabilization Fund (OSF)
in dollars is at its lowest now." An Iranian source in Teheran
told EIR that the move has to be seen in light of the recent U.S.
financial sanctions against Iran, whereby many banks, including
UBS and Credit Suisse in Switzerland, have cut Iran's bank
accounts. The U.S. "will not sell us dollars any more, so that's
why the euro will be used, not because they wanted to," the
 source explained. (mlm)

presidential election is sceduled to be held in June 2009 while
Parliamentary elections would be held in Feb. 2008. If approved,

HEDGE FUND LOCUST CARL ICAHN COMPLETED A LOOTING OPERATION
AGAINST SOUTH KOREA'S ONLY TOBACCO FIRM. Icahn's hedge fund
teamed up with another hedge fund, Warren Lichtenstein's Steel

then used this clout, and the threat of a $10 billion hostile

looting of over $4 billion through the purchase and manipulation

EXCITEMENT AROUND ANTIKYTHERA PROGNOSTICATES THAT LAROUCHE'S
STAR IS ASCENDANT, ACADEMIA'S IN DECLINE. The Antikythera,
covered by 21st Century three years ago, has been making a splash
in the news of late, as the ancient world's computer, because a
British, Greek, and American team have used x-ray tomography and
other state of the art methods to look under its surface at the
intricate gear system. "Enigma of ancient world's computer is
 cracked at last," ( Physorg.com, November 29, 2006).
However, the team comes up with its potential for predicting
eclipses being used only for some vague religious purpose, and
does not address its scientific purpose.
In the Spring 2003 issue, {21st Century} put out a call for
hypotheses about the function of the Antikythera -- not claiming
that we knew its precise function, but hoping to stimulate some
real thinking. I would like to add the following questions to the
 ones we posed in 2003:
      * If the Antikythera is a planetarium or orrery, what would
that imply about the builders/designers view of the solar system?
      * Is there any record that at the time, sailors were using
the planets and the moon for navigating?
      * Are there any oral or written records of ephemerides or
portulans surviving from around the time of Hipparchus? How do
the concepts of the Antikythera relate to the astrolabe, an
instrument built by using a double conical stereographic
projection, which is also attributed to Hipparchus?
      * Are there records anywhere of astronomers using similar
types of instruments -- for example, where are the antecedents of
the geared astrolabe the Arabs by no later than 1200 AD?
      * Are there any drawings or paintings of similar types of
 instruments? In the Arab world?
      * If the Antikythera indeed does have the capability of
showing within a precision of about a degree or so, the
position of the moon at any time of the year, then it could have
been used for longitude determination, without the use of tables.
Is there any other evidence that this might have been done? For
example, were the Arabs (although perhaps much later) capable of
finding their longitude in desert navigation?

                LOS ANGELES OPS, Dec 5

In Los Angeles we have been observing a mixed bag
concerning the subjective quality of outlook that students are
willing to have. We are finding that many of the students, even
though many of them voted, are still stuck in the old politics,
with a pessimistic objectivist view toward the election, while
other students (most of whom have been conscious of the work
that we had done in past mobilizations) managed to come to grips
with the new political reality that is in front of us in the
very near future, and the long term implications of the point in
history that we are living in right now.
Today we had four squads that were deployed on campuses
throughout the Los Angeles area. At Cal State in Fullerton, we
were able to distribute pamphlets on desks in classrooms and were
allowed by professors to address some of the classes. One
professor, when briefed, agreed to hand out a bundle of pamphlets
to the students in her classroom. We managed to create a
political and thinking environment on campus. The UCI squad had
to leave the campus early, because one of the members was invited
to do a television spot on LaRouche.
Brent was organizing to try to get a discussion group on
campus to discuss what LaRouche is doing and what the strategic
situation is. Some of the students were responsive to what we
were saying concerning the election and the youth vote, but in
many students there is a failure to realize the subjective
implications of this election and the fact that they were talking
to the movement that made history in this election. There were
still many students that were very excited for they raised $37,
23 contacts and distributed 24 bundles.
Another squad at LACC reported that there was a large
recognition of us, especially from Democratic Party events. They
had many students who were excited about the idea of
impeachment, and organizing for the next 50 years.

OAKLAND OPERATIONS REPORT FOR TUESDAY, Dec 5

A squad of eight deployed to San Francisco State University
for a follow up to our Monday Blitz, on Tuesday, distributing 40
bundles in a near campus housing project for students, and 8
bundles of collated pamphlets. Oyang noted that, consistently,
students acknowledged that they had either received the pamphlet
the day before or had talked to us, and many were more open to
discussion than usual, including many who claimed to be, not into
LaRouche, who were puzzled by our relationship to the Democratic
party. The idea leading organizers on campus during the
deployment, the challenge to students of the implied knowability
of actual change of social processes, which reflected itself as
proven in the results of the November 7th election, caused shock
in many students to identifying themselves as a member of a
generation.(!) The squad redeployed at 2:00pm to an intersection
on Divisidero street in San Francisco, raising for the entire day
 65 dollars. (dgd)

 webcast pamphlet.

EUROPEAN OPERATIONS BULLETIN FOR THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2006

 BERLIN OPS 4-5/12/06

      - "WHEN THE EURO BECOMES THE 1929 REICHSMARK, -
        - DO YOU WANT GEORGE BUSH IN POWER?!" -

This is the caption on one of our most stirring pickets at
the moment. The stir is here!
Just after the U.S. mid-term election, we have seen a shift
in the population on their opinion towards the situation in the
States. People have taken notice of the Democratic mid-term win
and there's a clear opposition to Bush, in several cases filled
with anger. Remarks like "Bush ist scheisse" is getting more
common, predominantly among people of middle eastern/muslim
descent. It goes to point of anti-Americanism by some, but common
is a hopelessness towards seeing a solution to the situation. We
are, to growing success, doing a lot to make people see the
connection between the economy, the Mideast situation, Bush,
bankers etc., and we are being loud about the present financial
collapse and how a New Bretton Woods type of financial system is
the one key to turn the present world situation around bringing
hope and world development instead, and leaving collapse to the
oligarchy. We've been using the contents of Jeff Steinberg's
latest memo and remarks on The LaRouche Show in our organizing,
and one thing we have been successful with is to explain about
the Howard Dean factor in the mid-term election, showing the
pictures of him and Rohatyn from the recent EIR, briefing on what
is controlling much of U.S. politics (also German and world
politics) and why it's not about Democrats vs. Republicans or
left vs. right, but it's a struggle between the interest of the
population vs. the interest of the bankers, the People vs. the
 Oligarchy, Truth vs. Sophistry.
Today we were booktabling at a square in NeuKoelln (just
south of Berlin Mitte/center) called Hermann Platz. Lots of
people were interested in our campaign and came up to us for
material. Just as we were there, a guy, Tweener, was walking
around near our book table talking in a mobile. One of us
overheard him reporting that the anti-Semites were here, and our
organizer went to him and handed him a flyer. He then stepped
back and swore something about us being anti-Semites. He quickly
walked away. Shortly after the police arrived saying that someone
had called them and said we had put up anti-Bush posters (well
the summoner must have "mistaken" pickets for posters). This sort
of thing has cropped up before about 2 months ago: someone
calling police complaining about anti-Bush posters. We can't be
sure of any link between these two incidents though.
One important episode from last week that didn't get in last
week's ops. A woman in her mid-thirties showed up at the office.
She had gotten the Sept. 6th webcast pamphlet in her mailbox a
while ago, and had it lying around. She almost threw it out, but
since the front cover looked somewhat interesting she took it up
and began reading the first page,.... and then the next page, and
the next page again and so on until she had read the whole
pamphlet. She was very excited about it and so we gave her more
material and she wants to come to our meetings, which was very
 exciting.
We have concluded first phase of our New Astronomy reading,
as we have speed read through the entire book once, and over the
period ahead we'll work through the individual chapters and
animations. Work on the Jesu is also progressing. We have divided
the whole gang into minor groups of 7-8 people with a team leader
and a chorus leader, each group doing their own separate
deployments, chorus quintet-octet rehearsals and reading days.
This has been a success so far. It shakes us up and challenges us
socially in a positive way. (Ben)
